What does a spray tan consist of:
The active ingredient Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) found in all spray on tan solutions, is a colorless plant sugar. It interacts with the dead skin cells of the outside layer of the skin (the epidermis) to produce a color change. DHA is a natural organic product that is derived from plants. Basically, DHA is a ingredient in plants that would turn bananas, pears, apples, or avacados brown. DHA is then made into a spray. The process of spraying this clear substance on your skin reacts with the amino acids; thus creating a color change. The instant color you see during a spray tan is only the bronzer. The actual color change appears over time. It takes 24 hours to see the full effects of your spray tan. This color change generally lasts for approximately 7 -10 days from the initial application.
